black girl seeks
There are presently no open calls for submissions.
black girl seeks is currently on hiatus. Thanks for your interest.
Please read the guidelines before submitting.
Our
request is simple. We seek original work by black women that is somehow
related (explicitly or inexplicitly) to at least one of the four
themes: love; home; stability; understanding.
Although we
want you at your best and your worst, we are only interested in your
work at its best. Please make sure that it is polished. We recognize
that creativity is often multifaceted, so you are welcome to submit to
each category. Please title your work.
Please do not include your name on the document that you upload to Submittable or in the title of your submission. black girl seeks reads blindly in order to extend the same opportunity to both published and unpublished artists.
Many publications will ask that you submit a cover letter. In lieu of that, we request that you answer two questions:
1. Who are you?
2. Why did you choose to submit this/these particular piece(s)?
This can be as short as you want, but please do not exceed 500 words.
If your work is accepted, your response may be published in part or in
full. Please submit this response in the section titled 'Cover Letter.'
(Note: If you want to include information beyond answering those two
questions, that is fine. Still, please don't exceed 500 words.)
We
do not accept work that has been previously published. We accept
simultaneous submissions, but please let us know if you are submitting
elsewhere. If your work has been accepted elsewhere, please let us know
as soon as possible.
Contributors will be compensated with either a PDF copy of the issue that their work appears in.
black girl seeks acquires First North American Serial Rights. Copyright reverts to the author upon publication. If your work is later published elsewhere after publishing with us, we request that you provide credit to black girl seeks. black girl seeks requests indefinite non-exclusive print rights for possible future anthologies and promotional materials, as well as indefinite non-exclusive electronic rights to feature your work on the black girl seeks website, possible e-books, and PDF copies of the issue.
We will try to respond to your submission
within four weeks. If eight weeks have passed and you have not heard
from us, please email info [at] blackgirlseeks.com.
Thank you for trusting us with your work.
